What is Entitlementitis?

Entitlementitis is the belief that one has “special inherent rights and privileges over everyone else and is constantly deserving of special treatment even at the expense of others without conscious.” One with “Entitlementitis” is blinded to the detrimental damage of their perpetual state of selfishness.

The Cure for Entitlementitis is to Create, Establish, and Sustain “Kindfulness”

Everyone is "entitled" to some degree, and no one escapes the battle. No one escapes the negative impact either. Entitlementitis is not a disease that affects the Clearview students only, no way. Entitlementitis infects and impacts everyone, including parents, staff, and even you.

"Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God." 2 Corinthians 5:18-20

The Victory Starts With Us!

The solution to overcoming and defeating entitlement starts with you and me! It starts with each one of us as we look deeply within ourselves and acknowledge the battle raging between our flesh and our spirit.

“Entitlementitis is the continual state of being stuck in “inward mindedness.”

“For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate. But if I do the very thing I do not want to do, I agree with the Law, confessing that the Law is good. So now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me. I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good. For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man, but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin.” Romans 7:15-25

How Do We Fight Entitlementitis?

We fight entitlementitis with love and unity. Fighting entitlement is actually a pretty simple process yet seems to be impossible at times.

“and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” John 8:23

Interestingly, the “fight” against and the “victory” over entitlementitis is found in the same place - “The Truth in Love.” The victory over entitlement begins within each one of us as individuals as we submit and yield to the Holy Spirit. The victory over entitlement starts when we take a personal inventory and come to a deep awareness of the battle within us - but that is just the start - there’s more.

It’s real simple. The victory over entitlement at Clearview will come forth in a culture of “love and unity.” Victory over entitlement will be found in our personal humility and through our corporate unity in the Spirit of Love.

Entitlement cannot live and is not welcomed in a culture where people truly love one another and lift each other up above themselves.

It’s Important to Know The Truth (How to Fight to Win).

I challenge you to master the following books of the Bible and the scriptures therein. Being armed with the truth is the first step to fighting entitlement. The Book of James: To effectively fight entitlementitis one must master the Book of James, no doubt. If you study this book and master the truth within it, it will uniquely prepare you with the foundational truth to win the battle over entitlement. Once you have overcome entitlement, you can help others to do the same.
